Everything flows: the philosophy of becoming
In 2025, Plasta Rei became part of the Itelyum Group, an international leader in the recovery of industrial waste. Plasta Rei evokes Heraclitus’s “everything flows”, the philosophy of becoming – and therefore of returning – which underpins the circular economy. We aim to apply this to plastic, to make it sustainable and kind to the land and the sea, because plastic is a precious material that must not end up in dead ends. The world will change – either through our efforts, or because of our responsibility.
Vision
Plasta Rei recycles PET using innovative ‘short-loop’ processes, which enable an advanced form of PET upcycling without any loss of quality.
The project was launched in 2021 following the conversion of facilities that were due to be decommissioned, which would have resulted in the loss of skilled jobs. The new project to build an industrial-scale plant for the ‘short-loop’ recycling of PET through depolymerisation aims to ensure continued employment and future prospects for employees and the local area.

Chemical expertise, the significant investment made in the laboratory and the pilot line form the Plasta Rei Research Centre, the cornerstone of the Plasta Rei Project – a project that is constantly evolving and constantly taking shape. The core of the upcycling process was developed and refined thanks to the Pilot Line, which acts as the link between the Laboratory and the Industrial Plant. The process developed is protected by intellectual property rights.
