Regeneration
Used Oil Regeneration
Everything is created, nothing is destroyed.
Oil is regenerated.
Itelyum Regeneration leads Europe in producing regenerated base oil for the world’s top lubricant manufacturers. Our state-of-the-art plants turn used oils into high-performance, sustainable products.
Itelyum Regeneration Products
Group I+ Lubricating Bases
Itelyum’s re-refined base oil produced through high-pressure catalytic hydrogenation, offer low sulfur and aromatic content, a high viscosity index, and ideal performance for industrial and automotive applications.
Group II+ Lubricating Bases
Itelyum’s HG Group II+ range, thanks to an advanced re-refining and hydrogenation process, delivers high performance, simplifies formulation, and meets over 75% of motor oil demand and 95% of industrial oil requirements.
The Technological Process
Regeneration is the process that maximizes the value of collected used oil, transforming it back into high-quality products.
Our regeneration processes achieve very high yields: from 100 kg of used oil, an average of 67 kg of regenerated base oil, about 20 kg of bitumen and diesel, and 8 kg of fully purified water returned to the environment are produced. Only the remaining 5 kg are sent to authorized third parties for potential further recovery.

Compared to primary production, regenerated base oil generates:
- 70% less CO₂ emissions
- 90% fewer fine particles
- 90% lower acidifying emissions (NOx, SO₂, and NH₃)
Additionally, at least 95% of the lubricant treated is either transformed into products, returned to the environment as purified water, or recovered by third parties.
Our Pieve Fissiraga
and Ceccano plants give new life to over 95%
of the lubricant lubricating oil they treat.
The Supply Chain
An excellence model recognized in Italy and across Europe, positioning the country as a leader in the collection and regeneration of used mineral oil.
The results achieved by the Italian supply chain, led by CONOU (Consorzio Oli Usati), over more than 40 years of activity are considered a benchmark for waste recovery: over 6.7 million tonnes of used oil collected, of which 6 million tonnes were sent for regeneration. This process has allowed Italy to save €3 billion in oil import costs.
Sustainability in Figures
Itelyum Regeneration is committed to improving its ESG performance and transparency through systematic reporting
This is achieved through a combination of data collection and verification, internal audits, site self-assessments, and reviews of management systems at site, functional, and company levels. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are used to measure and externally communicate overall performance.
