Itelyum 2024 Sustainability Report

Over 500,000 tons of CO₂ avoided and strategic investments to accelerate the green transition

Itelyum, a leader in the sustainable management and recycling of industrial waste, has presented its 2024 Sustainability Report, confirming its central role as a driving force of the circular economy and as a pillar in decarbonization and water resource recovery. In an increasingly complex and dynamic global context, the Group continues to demonstrate robust growth and a strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

Main highlights include:

  • 516 thousand tons of CO₂ avoided thanks to circular processes activated for customers;
  • An 86% circularity rate, up 2% compared to 2023;
  • A 3% reduction in direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1 and 2), mainly due to improved energy efficiency;
  • A 2% decrease in other pollutant emissions compared to 2023;
  • A 7% increase in the workforce, reaching 1,540 employees as of December 31, 2024;
  • A 3% increase in female representation in managerial positions;
  • An 11% rise in average training hours per employee over the past year, reflecting continued investment in specialist skills.

Itelyum’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in its rigorous internal control and management activities, ensuring ethical and transparent practices throughout the entire value chain.

“We are proud to present the 2024 Sustainability Report at a pivotal moment for our growth and innovation,” said Marco Codognola, Chief Executive Officer of Itelyum. “The new headquarters in Milan is the beating heart of this evolution — a place designed to foster collaboration, skill development, and creativity. The daily work of nearly 1,600 colleagues across 52 sites in Italy and abroad is the true strength that enables us to lead the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient industrial system.”

The Group reaffirms its commitment to transforming industrial production models toward increasingly circular solutions, as demonstrated by the acquisitions completed in the first half of 2025 of Holding Gestione Ambiente S.p.A. and Specialacque srl (including subsidiaries), which significantly strengthen its presence in liquid waste treatment.

“We are dedicated to water treatment, decontamination, and purification, continuously investing in advanced recycling technologies,” Codognola added. “This is our mission: to protect the environment and foster a more efficient and responsible circular economy.”

Further strategic developments include:

  • Financial: the €725 million bond issuance in March, confirming investor confidence;
  • Research and development: European-level recognition for the rare earth recovery project;
  • Market: achievement of ISCC PLUS certifications for several products, ensuring a responsible supply chain.
