Innovation
Innovation at the core
Technology and continuous improvement
At Itelyum, for over 60 years we have been revolutionizing the traditional business model with a circular approach, leveraging both internal research — through Itelyum’s expertise and proprietary technologies — and external collaboration through Open Innovation initiatives.
Increasingly efficient and sustainable
Recognizing the importance of digital development in facilitating the ecological and energy transition, we are committed every day to reducing:
- environmental impact by lowering emissions and promoting the use of secondary raw materials;
- social impact by fostering digital skills and enhancing employee well-being;
- governance impact by ensuring the effective use of information, management and data processing systems, and corporate performance processes.
A network of laboratories and pilot plants
Here are some projects that complement our business:
Rare Earth Elements
In 2023, Itelyum, together with Erion, took part in two projects funded by the European Community for the recovery of rare earth elements from WEEE. Through the NEWRE project, Itelyum developed a pilot plant at the Ceccano site to demonstrate the technology, while the INSIPIREE project aims to reach industrial scale.
Bio-based products
We produce biosolvents, biobased soaps, biolubricants, and biofuels through low-carbon technologies and production methods, starting from used vegetable oil.
Recycled plastics
The chemical recycling of post-consumer PET waste of all types — including, and especially, colored plastics — strengthens Itelyum’s commitment to sustainable chemistry and the reconversion of the Cisterna di Latina site.
Open Innovation
Research and technological innovation have always been part of our DNA since the very beginning. We study the best solutions to enhance the efficiency of our plants and the sustainability of our products. At the core lie the engineering and scientific expertise of our employees, combined with advanced digital tools for big data analysis. At the same time, we maintain an active dialogue and collaborate with universities, research centers, and companies through Open Innovation initiatives.
Collaboration is essential
Contamination is the key factor, as it enhances internal expertise and experience through external contributions. Numerous projects involve the Group in collaboration with universities and research centers. Itelyum is highly active in research projects co-funded at European, national, and regional levels, which allow for the testing of innovative solutions with the contribution and exchange of international partners.
